During the bitter divorce between her parents, Brittny lived with her grandmother and attended public school in Rockland County, NY. After graduating from high school, she went to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama, following in the footsteps of her mother. She intended to study event planning, but went back to New York City to model.

Gastineau is currently pursuing a career in acting and is a model. She has received work, starting with a photo spread in Stuff magazine that she attained weeks after she began to pursue modeling. Gastineau Girls went into production shortly thereafter and was aired on the E! Network.

Following the success of the show, opportunities for Gastineau increased. She walked runways for Anne Bowen and Anna Sui during NYC fashion week in 2005, and signed an endorsement deal with L'Oréal Paris, which led to a European advertising campaign. She also became the face of high end casual wear designer Ed Hardy. She appeared on the cover of Steppin' Out, Hamptons and Lucire magazines. Following the success of Gastineau Girls, Gastineau signed onto another E! Network reality show, Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive. Produced by Joe Simpson (father of Jessica & Ashlee Simpson), cameras followed the privileged children of celebrities working on a Colorado cattle ranch. The show wasn't as successful as Gastineau Girls, but it did keep Gastineau's name and image in the public eye.

As the second season of Gastineau Girls began, Brittny became the spokesperson for AOL, and became the first celebrity to create a podcast for iTunes. Again teaming with her mother Lisa, the ladies were offered opportunities to write articles for OK! magazine, and also landed a book deal. Brittny's modeling career continued to flourish, including contracts with MAC cosmetics, as well as runway shows for boutiques Heatherette run by Traver Rains and Richie Rich.
